The Aspirus Health Foundation has awarded scholarships totaling $350,000 to two medical students from the Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin campus. The scholarships were presented during a ceremony on February 6 as part of the Aspirus Scholars Program.

The program is designed to address the national physician shortage and serve communities in north central Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. It offers scholarships for tuition to medical students who, in return, commit to working at Aspirus in primary care, psychiatry, or general surgery after their training.

This year's scholarship recipients are Kaylynn Imsande from Menomonie, WI, and Rhiley Maguire from Mosinee, WI. Both are first-year medical students. "Our Aspirus Scholars award recipients already have strong ties to our area and are passionate about medicine and caring for patients," said Lanna Scannell, Aspirus Vice President, System Philanthropy. "Both will be a tremendous addition to the Aspirus family and help us grow access to vital services in our communities."

A selection committee composed of Aspirus physicians and community members reviewed applications and selected the recipients. This marks the ninth class of Aspirus Scholars.

Funding for the program comes from contributions by Aspirus hospitals and community partners such as The Legacy Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, Judd S. Alexander Foundation, Dwight and Linda Davis Foundation, B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation, Dudley Foundation, and Dr. Al Molinaro's family.
