FOIA Request Sent to Grant County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Grant County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request, filed by media organization The Sconi, sought detailed information about the methods being used to count ballots in the upcoming election.

The request specifically asked for a list of methods employed by the department for ballot counting. If manual counting is being used, The Sconi requested an estimated number of people who would be working on election night.

As a news organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate coverage of local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi believe that access to such public records is crucial. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as part of this FOIA request, asserting our eligibility as a media professional.

We await a response from the Grant County Election Department and will continue to pursue transparency and accountability in all aspects of local government operations.
