A Dane County judge has overturned parts of the 2011 Act 10, restoring collective bargaining rights for public employees in Wisconsin. This law had been instrumental in reforming public sector collective bargaining laws since its enactment. It was credited with saving taxpayers billions and providing budget flexibility to state and local governments.
In response to the ruling, Kurt R. Bauer, President & CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), issued a statement expressing disagreement with the decision. "This ruling is wrong on its face and is inconsistent with the law," he stated.
Bauer emphasized the importance of Act 10 as a tool for balancing budgets and achieving taxpayer savings. He noted that thanks to Act 10, various governmental bodies have saved substantial amounts over more than a decade, thus preventing significant tax increases for residents.
"WMC and our members hope this ruling will be appealed and that Act 10 will be reinstated as quickly as possible," Bauer added.
