The Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) has reported a notable increase in housing activity for 2024, with a year-to-date growth of 12.8% compared to the same period in 2023. The data, compiled from county-specific statistics through September, includes building permits submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
"A total of 10,203 permits were reported through Q3 for 2024 compared to 9,049 permits during the same period in 2023, reflecting a 12.8% growth," stated WBA President Jim Doering. He added that "activity in just Q3 is up 1.5% compared to Q3 of 2023."
Several counties have shown significant increases in growth. Milwaukee County leads with a rise of 132.1%, followed by Waupaca County at 107.7%, Pepin County at 88.2%, and Marquette County at 77.4%. In terms of quarterly growth alone, Iowa County and Pepin County both saw an increase of 175%, while Kenosha County rose by 62.9%.
Conversely, some counties have experienced declines. Door County faced a decrease of 44.5%, Racine County dropped by 31.8%, and Adams County fell by 28.4%.
"We are pleased with the growth that we have seen thanks to more stabilized interest rates, increased awareness of the need for housing, and our work enacting pro-housing legislation and loan programs to support new construction projects," said WBA Executive Director Brad Boycks.
The Wisconsin Builders Association is committed to addressing housing needs across the state as it continues its advocacy efforts on behalf of its members.
