The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced the application period for the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant. The program is open to Wisconsin meat processors until February 24, 2025. This initiative aims to support the growth of Wisconsin's meat industry and enhance the long-term sustainability of the state's livestock sector.
"Since Governor Evers and the legislature created the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant program, the program has supported meat processors in modernizing, expanding, and enhancing their capacity," stated DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. "We encourage meat processors to apply for this opportunity and grow their business."
Eligible applicants must operate or plan to operate a licensed meat processing establishment in Wisconsin under DATCP or U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations. Projects should focus on increasing harvest capacity or production. The grants can be used for expenses directly related to these projects, including engineering, architectural design, construction, food safety consultation, equipment purchases, and installation.
DATCP will provide grants up to $50,000 for projects lasting up to two years that aim to expand capacity or increase throughput. Processors are required to match 100% of the grant amount. The selection process will be competitive.
Interested parties can access application materials online and submit applications to DATCP grants manager Brian Williams. Successful applicants will be announced in the coming months.
