The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding residents to ensure they have the necessary identification for the upcoming Spring Primary Election on February 18, 2025. The most commonly used forms of ID at voting polls are Wisconsin driver licenses or IDs.

A federally compliant REAL ID card is not mandatory for voting purposes. According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, other valid forms of identification include military or student ID cards. For more information on acceptable IDs, voters can visit the Wisconsin Elections Commission website.

To acquire an ID suitable for voting, individuals can begin by reviewing a list of required documents online before visiting a DMV Customer Service Center. This information is available at wisconsindmv.gov/idcards. U.S. citizens who do not receive their ID card in time can obtain a free receipt from the DMV that is valid for voting.

The DMV provides this service and issues ID cards for voting at no cost. For assistance with obtaining a voter-eligible ID, individuals can contact the DMV’s toll-free hotline at (844) 588-1069. Additionally, the DMV website offers tools to locate nearby centers and check current wait times at wisconsindmv.gov/centers.
