A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Vilas County Election Department in Wisconsin on February 5, 2025. The request, filed by our team at The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, we requested a list of all candidates that are running for this upcoming election. We asked for detailed information including the candidate's first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of the candidate; as well as their contact information - address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Vilas County Election Department and will continue to work towards ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
