FOIA Request to Menominee County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In a recent endeavor to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi sent an official request to the Menominee County Election Department. This request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and sought detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Our request specifically asked for the following details: candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of the candidate; and all contact information for each candidate, including address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
