FOIA Request to Jefferson County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., with a preference for electronic format delivery. The records requested include a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, the following details were asked for each candidate: First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and party affiliation of the candidate.
In addition to these details, contact information for each candidate was also requested. This includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization, we at The Sconi believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested for a fee waiver as a media professional.
