FOIA Request to Ashland County Election Department Regarding Information of Candidates Running in the Upcoming Elections on February 5, 2025.
The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Ashland County Election Department. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming elections.
We at The Sconi have asked for an electronic format list that includes the first, middle, and last names of all candidates. Additionally, we have requested information about the office each candidate is running for and its jurisdiction. The party affiliation of each candidate is also sought.
In order to facilitate communication with these candidates for further journalistic pursuits, we have also requested their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await the response from the Ashland County Election Department as this information will be crucial in our ongoing coverage of local governmental affairs leading up to the upcoming elections.
