A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Bayfield County Election Department in Wisconsin on February 5, 2025. The request, made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The specific details requested include the full names of the candidates - first, middle, and last - as well as the office they are vying for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, the party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.
In an effort to ensure transparency and facilitate direct communication with these public figures, The Sconi also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization deeply invested in gathering and reporting news to the public, we at The Sconi believe that access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.
