FOIA Request to Marathon County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
We at The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent an official request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., to the Marathon County Election Department. Our request is for a detailed list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The information we seek includes each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; and all contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization, we are deeply involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
