FOIA Request Sent to Clark County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Clark County Election Department regarding the upcoming election candidates on February 5, 2025. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The Sconi requested a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., preferably in electronic format. The details requested for each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

In addition to these details, The Sconi also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, The Sconi stated that access to public records is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given their role in disseminating information, they believe they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The Sconi awaits a response from the Clark County Election Department regarding this FOIA request.
