A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Burnett County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. This includes their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
In addition to this, The Sconi also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We will continue to work diligently in gathering and reporting news to keep the public informed about important local governmental affairs. We await a response from the Burnett County Election Department regarding our request.
