U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin has joined fellow Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee in opposing any short-term tax package that offers only temporary relief. This stance was communicated through a letter sent to President Donald Trump, co-signed by Senators Steve Daines, John Thune, John Barrasso, Mike Crapo, James Lankford, Roger Marshall, Marsha Blackburn, and Thom Tillis.

The senators emphasized their support for making the provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. They highlighted the economic benefits observed following the 2017 tax cuts, including increased investment and higher wages. The group warned that without action to make these provisions permanent, taxes will rise across all income groups at year's end, putting nearly six million jobs at risk.

The letter states: “You were elected with a mandate to do big things. One of those big things is to provide lasting tax relief for small businesses and families across the country. As members of the Senate Finance Committee, we write to express our support for your position that the expiring provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act must be permanent and not sunset."

It continues: "Without action...a temporary extension of these pro-growth and pro-family policies is a missed opportunity...Failure to act boldly does a disservice to the American people who entrusted us to deliver in November."
