Brad Schimel, former Attorney General of Wisconsin and candidate for the state's Supreme Court, has expressed strong criticism of Susan Crawford's judicial record. He said that her record is "terrifying" and predicted that if she wins the upcoming Supreme Court election on April 4th, "we won't recognize Wisconsin." This statement was shared in a social media post on March 6.
"Susan Crawford's record is terrifying," said Schimel, WI Supreme Court candidate. "If she takes her dangerous ideology to our highest Court, we won't recognize Wisconsin."
According to Schimel's campaign, an advertisement was released featuring a mother who expressed concern over Crawford's sentencing decisions. The ad referenced the 2018 case of Kevin Welton, who was accused of sexually assaulting two young girls in separate incidents nearly a decade apart. The Middleton Times reported that Welton was found guilty of these assaults, which occurred in 2010 and 2018. Judge Crawford sentenced him to four years in prison followed by four years of extended supervision.

Deputy District Attorney Matthew Torbensen had recommended a ten-year sentence for Welton, stating that he "had perfected the methodology of assaulting children under water" and took advantage of their innocence. Despite the potential for a sentence of up to 100 years, as reported by WMTV15news, Welton received a significantly shorter term.
Welton was released from prison in January 2024 and remains under extended supervision until 2030. He currently resides in New London, Wisconsin, near the school where one of the incidents took place, according to WisconsinRightNow.
Schimel is running against Susan Crawford for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court in an election scheduled for April 4, 2025.
