Attorney General Josh Kaul, along with attorneys general from six other states, has issued a joint statement expressing support for efforts in the U.S. Senate to block a continuing resolution (CR) passed by the House of Representatives. The coalition is advocating for a clean, short-term CR to fund the government and allow further debate on significant issues related to a longer-term resolution.

The statement highlights concerns over actions taken by the Trump administration within the past two months. It accuses the administration of attempting to seize congressional power over spending, violating individual rights, and dismantling parts of the federal government. These actions are said to threaten services for veterans, research into deadly diseases, and public safety funding.

The coalition criticizes the House-passed CR for potentially exacerbating these issues by cutting essential funding and creating slush funds that could be used by the Trump administration. They argue this would undermine Congress' fiscal authority and centralize power in the presidency.

The statement also emphasizes the judiciary's role in checking what it describes as violations of law and constitutional principles by the Trump administration. The attorneys general stress the importance of taking steps to restore rule of law, constitutional governance, and vital community programs.

Joining Attorney General Kaul in this initiative are his counterparts from Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, and Vermont.
