Tom Tiffany, the representative for Wisconsin’s 7th District, said that a judge's alleged assistance to an undocumented immigrant undermines public trust and warrants permanent removal from the bench.

"BREAKING: Wisconsin's liberal Supreme Court suspends Judge Hannah Dugan after she was arrested for helping a criminal illegal alien evade ICE," said Tiffany, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. "Wisconsinites deserve law-abiding judges, not activists. Dugan should be removed permanently."

In April 2025, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan after she was charged with obstructing a federal proceeding and concealing an undocumented immigrant. According to the Washington Post, Dugan allegedly helped Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a previously deported Mexican national facing domestic abuse charges, evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents by directing him through a private courthouse exit. The court unanimously imposed an indefinite suspension, while Dugan’s legal team denied the allegations.

Between 1978 and 2022, the Wisconsin Supreme Court publicly disciplined 34 judges, including 15 suspensions, 12 reprimands, and three removals from office. According to the Wisconsin Judicial Commission’s 2023 annual report, these disciplinary actions reflect the court’s commitment to judicial accountability and ethical oversight. The Commission investigates complaints and recommends sanctions for misconduct.

While federal law prohibits harboring or shielding undocumented immigrants, prosecutions of state or local officials under these statutes are uncommon. According to the American Immigration Council, such cases are rare and often legally complex, especially when public officials act within the scope of their local authority. The debate continues over how these laws apply to public servants accused of aiding undocumented individuals.

Tiffany has advocated for strict immigration enforcement and demanded accountability from public officials. Following the suspension of Judge Hannah Dugan, he publicly called for her resignation, arguing that her actions undermined federal law and judicial trust. According to his official House website, Tiffany continues to press for policies that uphold border security and legal integrity.
