Two nurses from Grant Regional Health Center, Dayne Krachey and Steven Kliebenstein, have been recognized with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Both began their careers at the center as nurse interns and now work in Med Surg and the Emergency Department.

Dayne Krachey was nominated by a parent of a patient who shared an experience during a critical medical situation involving her four-year-old daughter. She praised Dayne's calmness, compassion, and attentiveness, noting his ability to provide both clinical care and emotional support. "Dayne’s presence and actions made all the difference," she stated. The parent highlighted how Dayne's actions exemplified nursing at its best through passion, empathy, trust, teamwork, admirable attributes, love for nursing, and selflessness.

Steven Kliebenstein was nominated by another patient's mother who described his interaction with her autistic daughter during a visit over Christmas break in 2024. She commended Steven's patience and calm demeanor which helped ease her daughter's anxiety during medical procedures. "Healthcare is definitely his calling," she remarked.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by Patrick Barnes' family to honor extraordinary compassionate care provided by nurses worldwide. Tami Chambers, President/CEO at Grant Regional Health Center explained that cinnamon rolls are served during each DAISY Award Ceremony in honor of Patrick Barnes’ gratitude towards nurses who cared for him. “Nurses make the world a better place,” Chambers said.

Over the past year, 13 nurses at Grant Regional Health Center were nominated for the award. Nominations are accepted throughout the year with recipients selected twice annually.
