The Wisconsin Lottery is celebrating the seventh annual Lottery Week, joining lotteries across North America in this event starting today. The week recognizes the contributions of lotteries in the United States and Canada to their communities.
Since its start in 1988, the Wisconsin Lottery has generated over $6.1 billion in property tax credits for homeowners in Wisconsin. Retailers have earned a total of $1.2 billion, while players have won more than $11.4 billion in prizes.
According to the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries, 95% of revenue from traditional U.S. lottery games goes back into the economy through prizes, retailer commissions, and public beneficiaries. These funds support programs such as property tax relief, healthcare reform, education, and environmental conservation.
"It feels great to celebrate Lottery Week knowing we are continuing to fulfill our mission and provide Wisconsin homeowners with property tax relief," said Wisconsin Lottery Director Cindy Polzin. "We're honored to join other lotteries across the country in celebrating the positive impacts we've made to our communities."
In fiscal year 2024, U.S. lotteries generated sales of over $113.3 billion and provided more than $30.6 billion for their beneficiaries.
The Wisconsin Lottery emphasizes social responsibility by collaborating with organizations like the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling and educating about responsible gaming.
During Lottery Week, social media will feature retailers and winners using #LotteryWeek. A giveaway on July 17 (National Lottery Day) via social media offers participants a chance at one of five prizes if they are at least 18 years old and reside in Wisconsin.
“Lottery Week is an important opportunity to highlight the many ways lotteries give back to their communities,” said David Gale, Executive Director of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries.
