May X. Kong, a 42-year-old resident of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley, with an additional three years of supervised release to follow the prison term. Kong pleaded guilty to the charge on May 7, 2025.

According to authorities, Kong was stopped by Eau Claire police officers on July 4, 2024, after leaving the home of an individual known for methamphetamine distribution. During the stop, officers discovered a loaded SCCY CPX-2 9mm handgun in the vehicle's center console and found a small amount of methamphetamine. Kong admitted ownership of the firearm during questioning by police. Due to her previous felony convictions, she is legally barred from possessing firearms.

At sentencing, Judge Conley noted that this was Kong’s third conviction for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon and expressed concern about her return to criminal activity only months after being released from state prison.

The investigation leading to Kong’s conviction involved multiple agencies: the West Central Drug Task Force, Eau Claire Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Clark County Sheriff’s Department, and assistance from the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force. The latter consists of federal agents from ATF alongside state and local law enforcement within Wisconsin’s Western District. Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. Levins prosecuted the case.

The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort utilizing resources from various Justice Department initiatives such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)—aimed at combating violent crime and dismantling transnational criminal organizations.

"Chadwick M. Elgersma, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that May X. Kong...was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 7 ½ years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon."

"The charge against Kong was the result of an investigation conducted by the West Central Drug Task Force, Eau Claire Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department."

"The ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force also assisted with the case."

"Federal criminal cases involving firearms are part of Operation Take Back America...Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."
