Tom Tiffany, a representative from Wisconsin, has called for the prosecution and removal of Judge Hannah Dugan following a federal judge's decision that she is not immune from charges related to aiding an undocumented immigrant. Tiffany made this statement on the social media platform X.

"When even a far-left judge like Lynn Adelman won't toss your case, you know you have seriously crossed the line," said Tiffany. "Judge Hannah Dugan should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and permanently barred from the bench."

In August 2025, a federal court determined that Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan could face criminal charges after allegations arose that she assisted a migrant in evading Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents by directing him through a nonpublic courthouse exit. According to Reuters, Dugan pleaded not guilty and could face up to six years in prison and $350,000 in fines if convicted of obstruction and concealment.

A 2020 investigation by Reuters revealed that over 1,500 U.S. judges had faced public misconduct accusations over the previous decade. These accusations included conflicts of interest and abuse of authority. While disciplinary actions such as suspensions, censures, and removals were issued, formal criminal prosecutions of judges remained rare due to the judiciary's unique protections and oversight structures.

The University of Wisconsin’s State Democracy Research Initiative reports that judicial accountability varies between federal and state systems. Federal judges are subject to the Judicial Conduct and Disability process, whereas Wisconsin state judges fall under the jurisdiction of the Wisconsin Judicial Commission. This commission can issue sanctions but lacks the authority to impose criminal penalties, reflecting different oversight tiers for misconduct or criminal allegations.

Tiffany has represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District since May 2020 after serving in both the State Assembly and Senate. A Republican known for his conservative views on fiscal restraint, immigration, and Second Amendment rights, he is also a member of the House Judiciary and Natural Resources Committees.
