The Wisconsin legislature has returned for its fall session in Madison, with two key issues impacting small businesses receiving attention.
One measure, Assembly Bill 146, would give employers more time to respond to unemployment insurance inquiries from the Department of Workforce Development regarding former employees. The proposed change extends the response window to 12 days. The bill has passed the Assembly and will move on to the Senate for further consideration.
Another legislative action, Senate Bill 184, seeks to prevent restrictions similar to those enacted in California that ban gas-powered vehicles and devices. Supporters of the bill argue it preserves consumer choice by ensuring individuals can decide which products they purchase rather than being required to switch exclusively to electric vehicles due to a ban on gasoline engines. The bill has cleared both chambers of the legislature and is now awaiting review by Governor Tony Evers.
"Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard by contacting their elected officials. NFIB will keep advocating for measures like these that protect your small business," stated the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
