The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced a call for nominations for the Wisconsin Potato Industry Board. Potato growers are expected to receive nomination forms by mail, but eligible growers can also request these forms via email from the Market Orders program staff.
To nominate someone, each form must have signatures from at least five eligible potato growers within the nominee's district. A Declaration of Eligibility on the form must also be completed. Completed nomination forms should be postmarked by March 28, 2025, and sent to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection's Market Order Program in Madison.
Open positions on the board represent several counties across different districts. District 1 includes Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Brown, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Door, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Florence, Forest, Iron Kewaunee Langlade Lincoln Marinette Menominee Oconto Oneida Pepin Pierce Polk Price Rusk Sawyer St Croix Taylor Vilas Washburn counties. District 2 covers Marathon Outagamie Portage Shawano Waupaca Waushara counties while there is also a District At-Large for producers statewide.
The election for the Wisconsin Potato Industry Board will take place from May 12 to June 16 in 2025. Elected members will serve a term starting July 1 until June 30 of 2028.
The nine-member board oversees more than $2 million collected annually through assessment fees paid by potato growers in Wisconsin. These funds support research market development and consumer education efforts within the industry.
DATCP is responsible for administering elections for all marketing order boards in Wisconsin.
