Demetrius Brown, a 47-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Oxford, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for assaulting a prison guard. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley late last week, will be served consecutively to Brown’s existing sentence for drug trafficking. Brown entered a guilty plea to the assault charge on June 9, 2025.

The incident occurred on August 24, 2024, when Brown attacked a guard who had discovered contraband in his cell. The guard sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

During sentencing, Judge Conley noted concerns about the safety risks posed to additional staff members who responded to the scene and commented on Brown's apparent lack of understanding regarding his violent actions. "Judge Conley found it troubling that in addition to causing injury to the guard, Brown’s conduct jeopardized the safety of other staff who responded to the assault. Judge Conley also expressed disappointment that Brown appeared to lack insight into his violent behavior."

The investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Ayala prosecuted the case.
