GRAND CHUTE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting that took place in the Town of Grand Chute, Wis. on the evening of Friday, April 12, 2024.

According to reports, deputies from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash in the 2800 block of W. Prospect Avenue in the Town of Grand Chute. Upon arrival, they encountered an individual brandishing a knife. Despite attempts to subdue the individual with a taser, one deputy resorted to discharging their firearm, resulting in the subject being critically injured. Life-saving measures were promptly administered, and the individual was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, as stated, "No law enforcement officers, or other individuals were injured during the incident." Following standard protocol, "Involved law enforcement are on administrative leave." It was also noted that "The involved deputies were wearing body cameras during the incident."

The investigation is being spearheaded by the DCI with the support of various law enforcement agencies, as mentioned: "DCI is leading this investigation and are assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Grand Chute Police Department, Appleton Police Department, a DCI Crime Response Specialist, and members of the DCI Digital Evidence Unit." It was emphasized that "All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation."

Moving forward, "DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Outagamie County District Attorney when the investigation concludes."
