U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has announced that he will donate his paychecks to The Joseph Project during the ongoing federal government shutdown. The Joseph Project is a faith-based initiative that offers a week-long job preparation program and connects participants with employers in Wisconsin.

Johnson explained his decision, stating, “Since the U.S. Constitution requires that I receive pay, even during a shutdown, I’ll be donating my paychecks to The Joseph Project. Every day the shutdown continues, the check gets a little bigger – compliments of Chuck Schumer.”

Senator Johnson has held his seat since first winning election in 2010 by defeating Russ Feingold with 51.9% of the vote to Feingold’s 47%. He was re-elected in 2016, again against Feingold, securing 50.2% to 46.8%, and won another term in 2022 by defeating Mandela Barnes with 50.4% of the vote compared to Barnes’ 49.4%.
